Wendover Woods and Tring Reservoirs

Distance : 12 miles / 19 km
This is a linear walk in a northerly and easterly direction from Wendover Station to Tring Station via Wendover Woods, Wilstone and the Grand Union Canal. On leaving Wendover we have a very steep climb of 120 metres up Boddington Hill into Wendover Woods. After catching our breath (and a hot drink) at the coffee and drinks cabin on the summit, we march back down the other side of the hill to reach the Wendover Arm of the Grand Union Canal at Harelane Bridge. We follow the canal to Drayton Beauchamp, before cutting across country to Wilstone Reservoir (built to supply water to the Grand Union Canal) and into Wilstone village for lunch on the village green. Retracing our steps we continue along the shore of Wilstone Reservoir then by causeways around Tringford and Marsworth Reservoirs to reach the junction of the Wendover and Aylesbury Arms of the Grand Union. Our final stretch follows the towpath of the GUC all the way to the end of our walk, close to Tring Station.
