Machine Embroidery

Machine embroidery for 5-6 members

This group is for anyone who would like to learn how to machine embroidery and /or those wishing to get back to it.

Machine embroidery as a genre takes many forms. For that reason, I propose to take participants through a series of practical exercises, to strengthen skills, knowledge and understanding of a range of techniques.

The early sessions could be an introduction. For example, how to use and control the sewing machine, co-ordinating eye and hand plus foot pedal speeds. Moving the fabric in different directions while creating a piece of work, and so on. I have limited equipment and a few machines (Berninas) I can loan for each session, but each person might prefer to bring their own.

Participants may also wish to use the group as an informal and supportive environment to discuss ideas, techniques, and materials. In later sessions it could become a workshop during which everyone gets on with their own ideas and work.

WHEN: Fortnightly, every other Monday, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
WHERE: At a house in Cressida Road near Archway
