Photographers and Photography

The Group is aimed at enthusiastic photographers who would like to improve their skills, learning about and from world renowned photographers e.g Cartier Bresson, Ansel Adams, Steve McCurry, Martin Parr, etc.
The focus of the Group will be on photographs that tell stories – or narrative photography – looking at all styles; street, travel, fashion, portraiture, social commentary, and the ways photographers in these genres invite the viewers into the picture, to ask questions, to make a statement, to challenge. We will look at different techniques – cropping, composition, lighting, styling, capturing emotion, the rule of thirds, B&W v Colour, post-processing etc.
Members will research images and photographers and then discuss how their photographs are constructed, styled, cropped etc to understand their strength.
The Group will venture out together to single destinations and put ideas into practice and share images in follow up meetings.

  Group Convener : Graham Bennett

The Group meets in Grove Avenue, N10 on the first Wednesday of the month, 11 a.m. – 12.45 p.m.

    Group update …

The Photographers and Photography Group resumed in March by Zoom: at this meeting we looked at some of the leading travel photographers of the world including Susan Seubert, the wonderfully named Art Wolfe, Ami Vitale, Stephen Wilkes, Hamid Sardar and David Lazar.

Members also picked one of their own travel photographs to share and these included the atmospheric photograph of Tibetan monks taken by Janet Sutherland and Ian Skerritt’s photo of shoreline harvesters in Chiloé in Chile.
