Capital Ring #4: Wimbledon Park to Richmond
7.5 miles / 12 km

Booking open from mid-day Tuesday 30 August 2022

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the u3a, the London Region walking groups are attempting to complete two walks around the city during the month of September. One of these is the Capital Ring and fortunately we have chosen one of the best stretches of the Capital Ring for our contribution

Starting from Wimbledon Park, this crosses Putney Heath, then goes through Richmond Park before finishing with a lovely stretch of the River Thames. Shortly after leaving the station of the same name, we enter Wimbledon Park, crossing via the lakeside to enter an area of housing near the All England Lawn Tennis Ground. We soon enter Putney Heath, walking past the iconic windmill and the lovely Queen’s Mere to reach the Beverley Brook (a tributary of the Thames). After crossing the very busy Kingston Bypass, we enter Richmond Park and head NW across the deer park. Passing between the Pen Ponds, we climb steadily to Petersham, which offers great views of the Thames Valley, before dropping down to join the Thames Path. Our final section follows the Thames into Richmond, where we leave the river and go through the town to reach the station
