South Kenton to Hampstead

11.5 miles 18.5 km
For this walk, we have combined two shorter stages of the Green London Way to make a more viable full days walk. However, there are plenty of opportunities to leave the route by public transport for anyone who might struggle with the distance. The walk starts from South Kenton Station, crosses Preston Park and then goes through woodland to reach the quiet open heights of Barn Hill and Fryent Way Country Park with its extensive areas of ancient meadows. We then reach the Welsh Harp Reservoir and its wooded edges which are rich in bird life. Walking quickly under the M1 and past the shopping centre we follow the upper reaches of the River Brent, and its tributary the River Mutton, to reach Hampstead Garden Suburb, through Hampstead Heath extension, around Whitestone Pond towards our destination at Hampstead Heath Underground Station.
