Forest Hill to Streatham

As we set off from Forest Hill railway station, we go through the Horniman Museum Gardens, then along the railway embankment nature reserve, before entering the ancient Dulwich and Sydenham Woods. After crossing Sydenham Wells Park, laid out in 1907 with ornamental plantations and small lakes, we reach Crystal Palace Park with its exotic trees, more lakes, and the Victorian idea of dinosaurs. Gipsy Hill, Central Hill, Beulah Hill and Crown Hill, are not very challenging, though from the highest point we hope to be able to see Alexandra Park and even Epping Forest as well as the Crystal Palace Mast. We eventually cross Streatham Common before following Russell’s footpath to end our walk at Streatham station.
