Lullingstone Circular

10.0 miles / 16.0 km

This is a circular walk full of interest, as we follow the Darent Valley Path to the village of Shoreham, climb onto the Downs and cross Lullingstone Country Park before returning to our starting point. Heading south from Eynsford, we join the Darent Valley Path by Lullingstone’s Roman Villa and continue past Lullingstone Castle. From here we stay close to the River Darent as we follow it upstream towards the pretty village of Shoreham. In the next section we follow a broad loop south of Shoreham to cross the Darent once more before climbing steeply onto the chalk and following a path through Meenfield Wood, passing close to the Shoreham War Memorial, a large cross carved into the chalk hillside. A short road walk heralds the second steep climb onto a slightly higher ridge. We are now heading north-west through fields and woods, quiet except for the sound of the M25 becoming ever more obtrusive. Our final stretch, takes us NE across farmland before we re-join the Darent Valley Path and descend to the village of Eynsford, where we use the beautiful grade 2 listed bridge to cross the river for the final time. That is of course except for those who would prefer to wade across via the adjacent ford (not recommended!).
