►Science of Health series

Our programme

4 June 2018

Dr John Ford, Research Fellow of the National Institute of Public Health and himself a public health doctor, will focus on the 20 year Global Burden of Disease study with an emphasis on the data for England and policy that has been developed s a result. Funded by the Gates Foundation and based at the University of Washington, sophisticated research models have been developed that allow, for example, for comparisons between England and Ghana.

2 July 2018

David Zigmond, semi-retired GP and psychiatrist, will lead a seminar on wholistic primary care medicine. The seminar, in tune with his latest book, is entitled If You Want Good Personal Healthcare, See a Vet – why and how should we care for one another? What kinds of human suffering constitute illness? What does diagnosis mean? Can it be harmful? What is the role of our personal agency? What are the political aspects?

Meetings will be held on the first Monday of each month between 12.00 and 1.30 p.m. at the Union Church and Community Centre at the junction of Ferme Park Road and Weston Park, N8 9PX.

Refreshments are not provided. Members are invited to bring their lunch if they so wish to ‘munch and listen’.
